Internships

MHCBC Graduate Internships

The Mental Health Center of Boulder County offers direct practice internship placements for students who have completed one or more years of an approved graduate program in clinical psychology, psychology, and or counseling. The MHCBC interns are required to commit a minimum of 700 hours at 20 hours per week. The placements generally begin in September and end in May or June. Included in the twenty hours per week are one or more hours of one to one supervision with an experienced clinician and two hours of Basic Psychopathology: Diagnosis and Treatment. Interns are also invited to attend the frequent in-service and training presentations offered to staff. The expertise and resources of the Center's research librarian and the library are available to interns for education and research projects.

The Center accepts approximately 40 Interns each year. Interns complete the placement with one treatment team. An individual treatment team may have from one to eight interns. Interns are considered to be primary therapists who carry a limited case load of clients; they are responsible for treatment planning, therapy, case management, charting, and any other duties and tasks assigned to therapists on a particular team.

Applications for Internships are available beginning in March for the following academic year.

Volunteer Opportunities

The Mental Health Center of Boulder County utilizes the skills, interests, and commitment of volunteers in many different areas. Opportunities for volunteer work include, but are not limited to, fund-raising events, office work, transportation services, and working directly with consumers as a member of a treatment team. All volunteers are provided with supervision from experienced staff. The assets that volunteers of different ages and backgrounds bring to the Center are invaluable in increasing the range and quality of our services. We encourage anyone over the age of eighteen that has time and interest to consider working with our staff and consumers. Time commitments vary with the assignment and are up to the volunteer.
